The Bielefeld University celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. It is thus one of the young universities and was founded at a time when the aim of education and higher education policy was to enable more young people to receive an academic education. Until then, the path to a university education was often only open to the bourgeois elite. New ground was also broken in the design of the university building. One aim was to locate all the faculties as close together as possible and thus also to promote interdisciplinary research. In keeping with the tastes of the time, a monumental building made of concrete and glass was created in Bielefeld. After more than 50 years, however, the building is in need of repair and the self-contained structure does not make the urgently needed renovation easy. For some years now, the work has been going on and a few days ago the last hour struck for the university canteen. Whether one liked the old canteen or not, generations of students will remember it very well. So a good reason to capture its end in a picture.
