The 'Externsteine' are an ancient sandstone formation in the Teutoburg Forest near the small town 'Horn-Bad Meinberg'. For generations a visit was and still is a must for every school child in East Westphalia-Lippe. I haven't been there for at least two decades, so I took the time on a Saturday morning for a little trip. The rocks have changed much less than I did!

A few years ago, the ThyssenKrupp Corp. has built its new headquarters on the site of one of their former steelworks. From the old heavy industry that dominated cities like Essen and many others in the Ruhr district a few decades ago, is hardly seen anything. This photographs were taken on the ThyssenKrupp Campus and in the nearby new ThyssenKrupp park in Essen (Germany).

Two very dramatic architectural photographs from a short visit to Hannover (Germany). The first one shows the a pyramid which was part of the Danish pavilion during the EXPO 2000. The second photograph was taken at the NordLB building in downtown Hannover. It was designed by 'Behnisch & Partner' and build between 1998 and 2002.

For decades, the heavy industry was one of the most important industries in the Ruhr district. Today there are only a few steel mills and coal mines. The steelworks PHOENIX West in Dortmund was shut down in 1998.
