The weather in March and April is often very changeable. The last days were very sunny and beautiful in Bielefeld. Last Saturday afternoon a cloud front came up and I passed a gas station at the 'Schweriner Straße' by chance. It was about 19:00 o'clock and the sun had almost set. Then I took the following two photos.

Prints of the pictures are available in my online shop. If you want to visit the shop, you have to leave this website: www.farbenfrohebilder.de

In times of the coronavirus, hospitals around the world face an enormous burden. With thousands of infected people, some of whom require inpatient hospital treatment or even intensive care, the available capacities in hospitals are quickly exhausted. And these are particularly difficult times for hospital staff. It should not be forgotten that the care of infected patients is always associated with a high risk of infection for the staff. Now, in March 2020, the situation still seems to be well under control. Nobody can say what it will look like in a few weeks' time.

The Central Hospital in Bielefeld was built in the 1980s. It is the largest hospital in the city. But there are several others. This photo was taken early in the morning shortly after sunrise.

Here's a little Sparrenburg castle special. All photos were taken from the Bielefeld district 'Gadderbaum'.There is certainly no other building that stands for Bielefeld like the castle on the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest. Most of the time you can see pictures taken from the city centre or from the ' Johannisberg'. Here, the view goes from the 'Gadderbaum' district south of the city centre towards the historic castle.

I took the pictures with the Fujifilm GFX 50R and the lens Fujinon GF 5.6/ 100-200 mm R LM OIS WR.

The coronavirus is slowly having an effect on my photographic activities. The motto is: Avoid public places and crowds. I think this is reasonable and sensible. Unfortunately, photos in parks and in the botanical garden in Bielefeld are thus also on my personal red lists. But from last weekend I still have the one or other picture.

I tried the focus bracketing function of the Fujifilm GFX 50R together with the Fujinon GF 4/ 120 mm Macro lens for some focus stacking. Not so much is blooming in March yet, but you can find one or two beautiful flowers.

The 'Kunsthalle' in Bielefeld is a museum for contemporary art. It was built in 1968 in Bielefeld city centre and designed by the architect Philip Johnson. It is a very distinctive building.

Since the 1980s, the sculpture 'Axis' by Richard Serra has stood in front of the 'Kunsthalle'. I can still remember very well that the steel plates - rusty ones at that time - caused a lot of discussion. Not everyone likes that, but neither does art have to.

In my opinion, the sculpture is an enrichment for the 'Kunsthalle' and for Bielefeld.

At the 'Obernstraße' in Bielefeld's city centre there is a small pavilion with a weather station. It has been there for as long as I can remember. You can read the current temperature and the air pressure in it.

I was never particularly interested in this little house. But on an early rainy sunday morning it caught my eye because of the nice lighting. I took a picture with the Fujifilm GFX 50R and the Fujinon GF 3.5/ 50 mm R LM WR lens. Because I didn't have a tripod with me, I had to take the photo from the hand. I was not so sure if the technical image quality would be sufficient. After all, ISO 3200 was necessary to get an unblurred image. But all in all, it turned out that the result is absolutely usable.

Interesting with such photos is that one often sees things that one had never noticed before. Even if it is your home town and you have passed it countless times. In this picture these were the astrological signs, placed in the edge of the roof of the small weather station.

On last Sunday I visited the campus of the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld early in the morning to take some wide angle photos with the Fujinon GF 4/ 23 mm R LM WR on the Fujifilm GFX 50R camera.

It was a typical morning in March with cloudy sky. Ideal to take pictures with reduced color. The diagonal lines of the stone slabs on the large square guide the view of the new building of the University of Applied Sciences and the structures of the sky form a beautiful visual counterbalance to the geometric structures of modern architecture.

The first photograph is a normal shot. The second photograph is a panorama composed of various individual photographs. On this picture you can see the CITEC building on the left (Center for Excellence Cognitive Interactive Technology).

This morning I was once again at the 'Lenkwerk' to take some architecture photos in the blue hour. This time I took the wide angle lens Fujinon GF 4/ 23 mm R LM WR.

I find the results very appealing. As the Fujifilm GFX 50R with a resolution of 50 megapixels and the aspect ratio of 4 to 3 offers plenty of reserves, even square shots are possible without losing too much image quality in the end. For me this is a real advantage compared to the 35mm format. I also find the sun stars very nice, which the lens produces with point light sources when you stop down a bit. The two photographs here were taken with aperture 8. Because of the required longer exposure times I used a tripod.

I have been shooting with the Fujifilm GFX 50R for a few days now and this morning I got the chance to try out the camera for architectural and available light photography for the first time. The technical quality of the pictures is really impressive.

I went with the camera to the northeastern edge of Bielefeld's city center in an area with trade and some industry. All photos were taken from a tripod with the Fujinon GF 3.5/ 50 mm R LM WR lens. Remarkable is the extremely large dynamic range that the RAW files from the GFX 50R have. Where I had to use HDR-photography in the past, now a single shot with appropriate post-processing is sufficient.

My hometown Bielefeld can't come up with the really big architectural highlights, but there are still some buildings that are worth to be photographed. Actually, the right light is always crucial. That's why I like to photograph architecture early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Here are some pictures of buildings that are not very beautiful in themselves, but have their own charm in the right light. I photographed with the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and the lenses Fujinon XF 2.8/ 16 mm R WR and Fujinon XF 2/ 35 mm R WR.
